  • Google Calendar ICS

The Endline photo series will be publicly shown for the first time in a new exhibition, paying tribute to the diverse people who work in deathcare in Melbourne, from palliative care clinicians and funeral directors, to morticians, religious celebrants, crematoria operators, and cemetery staff.

The Endline photo series will be exhibited at 75 Reid Street at the following times:

27th Thursday: 5:30pm onwards, for the Opening Night

28th Friday: 10am to 4pm

29th Saturday: 10am to 4pm

Endline is a project created by Melbourne photographer Bri Hammond in collaboration with the Melbourne University Researchers, Hannah Gould and Samuel Holleran, part of the DeathTech Research Team.

The Covid pandemic introduced us to ‘frontline’ workers—those who keep us safe and healthy in challenging times. Far less attention has been paid to people working on the pandemic ‘endline’, caring for the dying, dead, and bereaved. This is an industry that is mostly hidden from public view and is often stigmatised.

But our deathcare workers are just as important. They uphold the dignity of the dead, care for the emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of the bereaved, and protect the health of our community. The endline project aims to give deathcare workers the recognition they deserve.

In intimate portraits and in the small details of working environments, Endline images reveal death work to be an essential service and a practice of care, not only for the dying and dead, but also for the bereaved and the wider community.

The Endline exhibition runs alongside Redesigning Deathcare, a major conference bringing together research and practice at the end of life and death in dynamic conversations about the challenges facing deathcare and how to build a better system. Conference Registrants do not need to register for the Endline Opening Night.

Rise of the Elementals

Rise of the Elementals

The Four Nations have been at peace for as long as living memory. Nature no longer has need for element benders, and those who possessed the power to bend the elements are almost all gone. Some even doubt that such magic ever existed. But with their loss came the loss of their connection to the environment, their traditions, and wisdom. Now a new, unnatural evil is emerging, and we will need to call upon any remaining benders to join the fight.

This thematic and immersive day will need the imaginations of young writers to bring this rich world to life. From heroes with complicated pasts and villains who are more than they appear, to creatures, spirits, and animal hybrids, young writers will create dynamic characters whose journeys will determine the future of the Four Nations and beyond.
